Ging Tea House

Legend has it that The Tea House was one of the first colonial tea planter's bungalows built in the region in 1864. The house is admirably classic in style, having been tastefully restored while preserving its colonial heritage.

This historic house is surrounded by lovely, well-kept private gardens. Inside, the tranquillity and atmosphere of a family home are still present. The rooms are luxurious, with old wooden flooring and exposed rafters on the high ceiling, as well as period furniture and drapes.

Each suite has a bathroom that is equally spacious and equipped with all modern amenities. A front desk is open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As a result, you are well taken care of at all times.

Step out into the gardens and unwind in the gazebo or on the sun deck, sipping morning tea in the company of the birds and gazing at the majestic Himalayan mountains. The location offers stunning panoramic views as well as plenty of privacy. In the evening, gather around the ancient stone fireplace in the library with a glass of wine to hear stories about life in the hills or play the antique piano.

The Ideal Plan

Siliguri is 73.3 kilometres away from this location. The tour begins in the morning with a brief recap of several legendary stories about how tea travelled from China to East India, and they let your imagination decide which one to believe. Your guide will show you how the 'two leaves and a bud' are plucked from the bushes as you walk through the tea garden's various sections. During the plucking season, you can even see the pluckers on the job, complete with wicker baskets and umbrellas. Take a lunch break and join them for a rustic tea picker's lunch. Then they take you to the tea factory to demonstrate the time-honored tea manufacturing process established by the East India Company back in the day. Learn about the various steps involved in making the perfect cup of black tea, including withering, rolling, fermenting, drying, and sorting. Following a feast for the senses of sight, smell, and touch, the experience concludes with a 'tea-tasting session' of the day's brew.
