Sourenee Tea Estate is located in the scenic Mirik Valley of the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India. Sourenee is a combination of two words: "Sour" – a type of tree native to this region with medicinal properties – and "Rani," which means "Queen of the Valley."
The Estate extends over nearly 137 hectares at altitudes ranging from 700m to 1300m. The scenic beauty of the Estate and its surroundings is unrivalled, and with an abundance of exotic flora and fauna, this Estate is ideal for Eco-Tourism, the infrastructure of which is actively being developed by the current management. Sourenee Tea Estate is over 100 years old and has produced quality teas over the years, making the estate very popular among tea lovers all over the world.
To increase productivity and improve tea quality, the old tea shrubs are being gradually replaced by new clone plants. This garden is primarily fed by rainwater, which is available for approximately 8 to 9 months of the year, with irrigation facilities extended to the areas that require them.
Darjeeling Tea cannot be grown in any other part of the world due to its ideal favourable climate and the indigenous nature of its soil and environment. The Tea Board and the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, as well as the World Trade Organization's TRIPS Agreement, sought to protect this equity.
